- Will the free tier disappear?
- No. The free tier is forever. The Reader tiers are how we keep the lights on, and many writers will only ever use the workspace. That is fine. The workspace alone is a complete product.
- What providers does Studio support?
- Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), and any local endpoint that speaks the OpenAI-compatible API (Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp). Pick one as your default and switch any time. OpenAI is temporarily unavailable while we fix a fault on our side. Your key stays saved.
- What counts as fair use on Pro?
- It depends on how long your book is, because a structural read sends the whole manuscript to the model. On a 100,000-word novel that is around 24 whole-book reads a month; on a 200,000-word one, nearer 13, since every read costs us more. Alongside those, thousands of quick checks: a grammar pass or a synopsis sends a single scene and costs a fraction of a cent, so it barely counts against the month. Most writers will not come near the limit. If you do reach it, reads on our AI pause until the 1st. You can carry on straight away with your own provider key, which means adding the key in Settings and switching The Reader to “My own key”, after which reads bill to your account rather than ours. Your writing, your files and everything else in the workspace are never affected. The usage panel shows how much of the month is left, so it should not arrive as a surprise.
- Can I switch tiers anytime?
- Yes, monthly. Switching down does not remove access mid-cycle; you keep what you paid for until the period ends.
- Does DraftProse write the manuscript for me?
- No. The Reader reads. It does not generate prose for the page. If you want a chatbot to draft sentences for you, use ChatGPT. That is the line we will not cross.
